Better Part of Valour
Your heart races as you turn and flee, knowing that the wolf is hot on your heels. Your legs burn with the effort of running, but you don’t dare look back, for fear of seeing the beast’s ferocious jaws closing in on you.
As the wolf’s growls become louder, you scan the area for anything that might offer you a chance of escape. Your eyes lock onto a towering tree ahead, and you make a mad dash towards it. With a surge of adrenaline, you leap towards the tree, grabbing onto its rough bark and pulling yourself up as fast as you can.
Your heart hammers in your chest as you climb higher and higher, the wolf’s snarls ringing in your ears. You cling to the trunk, hoping that the tree’s thick branches will keep you out of the wolf’s reach.
The wolf circles the tree, its eyes fixed on you as it tries to figure out how to get to you. You hold your breath, waiting for the beast to give up and leave you alone. Finally, the wolf growls in frustration and slinks back into the forest.
You let out a sigh of relief and climb down from the tree, your legs still shaking with the intensity of your escape. As you make your way back to the village, your mind races with the knowledge that you narrowly avoided death. But as you return to Maganwyth with the special herb, your fear is replaced by a sense of pride.
Maganwyth examines the herb closely, her eyes sparkling with approval. “You have done well, young one,” she says. “Perhaps there is more to you than I first thought.”
As Maganwyth speaks, you feel a thrill of excitement at the thought of what else you might be capable of. You know that your journey with her is far from over, and that there are many more tests and trials that await you. But with each one, you will grow stronger and more powerful, and you will prove yourself as a true warrior in the dark, magical world that surrounds you.
