Jacob
Jacob bears the marks of a difficult past, evident in his haggard appearance and scars. His piercing, dark eyes betray a wealth of knowledge and experience beyond his years. Driven by a thirst for knowledge, Jacob sought out the village witch Maganwyth, who recognized the power of the god Thoth within him. Under Maganwyth's tutelage, Jacob learned to harness the power of Thoth and other forms of magic. Jacob's fiercely independent and stubborn nature can sometimes be misconstrued as arrogance or difficulty. However, those who know him well understand that he is passionate about his beliefs and will stop at nothing to defend them. Though he may lash out with a biting remark, he is often calculating and cold, using his sharp intellect to navigate complex situations.
Robin
Robin, the twin brother of Jacob, is a physically capable and agile man, with a no-nonsense approach to life. He prefers taking swift actions overthinking and excels in hunting, fighting and drinking. However, his straightforward thinking often leads others to underestimate him. Robin's charismatic personality enables him to get away with things that others cannot, but his history of being a womanizer may come back to haunt him. Robin's relationship with Jacob is complex, as they have a deep bond but often clash over their differing approaches to problems. Despite their differences, Robin holds a deep respect for his brother's intelligence and resourcefulness and will do whatever it takes to protect him.
Raouf
Raouf was a man of the wilds, hailing from the harsh northern lands where he was raised. He learned to survive in the wilderness from a young age, and his expertise as a hunter and forester was unmatched in the small village where he lived with his wife and twin sons, Jacob, and Robin. Despite his gruff and stoic demeanour, Raouf was a devoted and caring husband and father. He would spend long hours in the forest, tracking game and providing for his family. Raouf was highly respected and admired by all who knew him, and his legacy lived on in his sons, who inherited his strength, resilience, and sense of honour.
Erin
Erin is a kind and gentle woman who radiated warmth and compassion. She devoted her life to her family, especially her husband Raouf and her sons Jacob and Robin. She faced many hardships, including losing her parents as a child and her husband’s disappearance. She was raised by the priests of Havendale, who taught her faith and charity. She struggled with depression, but never lost hope or love.
Maganwyth Puzzlecrow
Maganwyth Puzzlecrow, a reclusive witch, calls the cliffs of Havendale her home. She possesses knowledge of the darkest corners of magic, studying spells and incantations forbidden by most. When Jacob sought her aid, she saw in him a kindred spirit and agreed to mentor him in the art of healing magic. Maganwyth has become a mother figure to Jacob over the years, teaching him all she knows about magic. Despite her immense power, few know the truth of her origins or her true abilities, shrouding her past in mystery. She is a complex character, feared by many who see her as a witch of the darkest sort, yet her true nature remains enigmatic, hinted at only in whispers and legends.
Ailwhyn Eversong
Ailwhyn Evensong is a beautiful and graceful Aldari woman who hosts the goddess Gyia, the mother of nature. She has great power over the natural world, but also faces great danger from those who fear it. She is independent and devoted to Gyia and sees herself as a guardian of nature. She is wise and knowledgeable, and often helps others with her insight. She loves William, the Heir Prince of Gont, but he does not love her back. She is his loyal friend and advisor.
Heir Prince, Sir William Nadrog
Sir William Nadrog is the Heir Prince of Gont, a young and idealistic leader who strives to do what is right for his people. He is respected and admired for his passion and dedication, as well as his diplomatic skills and charisma. He is educated by the best teachers, including his mentor Heineroth, a veteran soldier. William’s closest friend is Ailwhyn, who loves him, but he secretly loves someone else but will always put his duty and responsibilities above his own needs.
Heineroth
Heineroth, a commoner soldier, is an imposing and fearless figure in Gont's princedom, rising through the ranks to achieve high military honours. He's respected by comrades for his stoic and experienced demeanour, and his expertise is highly valued. Heineroth mentored young Prince William since childhood, imparting vast knowledge of combat and leadership to instil duty and honour. His unwavering loyalty in the face of adversity has made him a respected hero among soldiers and people of Gont.
Lotheran Pessoj
Lotheran Pessoj is a drunken, lecherous privateer and smuggler with a wild and erratic personality. Despite his rough exterior, he has a certain charm that draws people to him. His constant companion is a wharf rat named Captain Bob, who lives in his tricorn hat. Lotheran's appearance is as rough as his personality, with dark brown locks and a scruffy goatee. His right eye is covered by a leather eyepatch, and his hat is adorned with trinkets from his daring exploits. He wears long sea boots, linen trousers, a faded red waistcoat with bulging pockets, and a thick leather jacket that conceals his twin rusted sabres. Despite his reckless behaviour, Lotheran is a skilled and resourceful pirate, feared by many and respected by few.
Catrin Queen
Catrin Queen is the youngest daughter of the ruler of Vantoth and a respected member of the Matriarchal Princedom. She is a skilled soldier who has spent many years fighting on the border of Vantoth and Rwelvencrest against the horrors that threaten her land. Catrin is known for her sarcastic wit and straightforward nature, which endears her to her battle-sisters and fellow soldiers. While Vantoth is known for its strong religious beliefs, Catrin is more pragmatic in her approach to life. She doesn't let dogma or superstition cloud her judgement, and instead relies on her own experience and intuition to guide her decisions. Catrin is a powerful woman who commands respect and admiration from those around her, and her loyalty to her country and her friends is unwavering.
Talos Tarus
Talos, the Inquisitor General of the Church of the One True God, is a fearsome figure, known for his uncompromising stance on religion and ruthless pursuit of heretics. He justifies torture as a necessary means to achieve his goals, which he sees as a crusade against corruption and evil. Despite his hardened exterior, he is a devoted husband and father, driven by his unwavering dedication to the church's teachings. Talos' influence within the church is immense, and his legacy is likely to be long-lasting.
Renwalt & Margaret Nadrog
Renwalt Nadrog is the younger brother of the Electoral Prince of Gont, Godwin Nadrog, and he and his wife Margaret have three surviving children, with their oldest son Edward being their pride and joy. Margaret is a graceful and beautiful woman with a sharp mind, always one step ahead of her husband and the other nobles. She is disgusted by Renwalt's greed but lusts after the power of being a princess, using her charm to manipulate the court. Renwalt, on the other hand, is obese and often drunk, staining his lips with wine. The couple works together to try to seize the throne from Godwin and William, but secretly hate each other.
Celina and Falia
Celina (the oldest) and Falia (the youngest) are the two daughters of the blacksmith of Havendale. They have a younger brother. The two are considered widely to be the most beautiful women in Havendale, a small fishing village. Their family is relatively well off, so neither have done a day of labour in their lives aside from the occasional fruit or flower picking. Celina attracts the eye of Robin, and they begin their first romance. At the same time, Falia is very nice to Jacob, who mistakes her kindness for attraction.
Birel
Birel is the daughter of Gregor and Eyia, the owners of the local tavern. With her bright red hair and playful nature, she often steals the attention of those around her. She has a soft spot for Robin and sees him as a potential suitor, but Robin only sees her as a younger sister. Despite this, the two of them get up to mischief together, sneaking around and stealing food from the inn's kitchen. Birel dreams of leaving the small village and exploring the world outside, but for now, she's content with her life and causing trouble with her closest friend.
Balis Gestalt
Balis Gestalt, an Aldari living in Trindon's slums, built a thriving smuggling and crime empire. Despite his podgy appearance, he's lethal with a blade, but prefers to hire others for dirty work. He killed his father to take control of the slum. Balis has many shady deals yet aspires to be seen as a respectable businessman. He's an honourable person at heart.
Gneth
Gneth, a Gnomus and lieutenant of Balis Gestalt, lives in the slums of Trindon and works as a latrine cleaner in Castle Nadrog. At just over a foot tall, he has dark eyes, grey hair, and a hunched back. His snarling face and ragged clothing suggest a life of hardship. While he can be abrasive, he connects well with society's outcasts. Gneth has been a slave his entire life and holds a deep seeded resentment for the church.
Gyia
Gyia, the revered Mother of the old religion, is the oldest living deity with a history spanning centuries. She is devoted to healing and re-birth, but deeply saddened by the persecution of her children by the Empire. Gyia shares the mind of Ailwhyn, and many believe the young woman to be a vessel for her power. Gyia's immense powers are often associated with the natural world, where her touch brings new life and growth. She embodies the best of motherly compassion and nurturing. Despite her peaceful nature, she is a force to be reckoned with, commanding respect and reverence from her followers. Her unyielding will and wrath towards those who cross her or her followers are feared. Gyia is a complex and fascinating figure whose influence has shaped the course of history.
Thoth
Thoth, the god of Wisdom, Knowledge, and Learning, is a revered deity in the old religion. He has possessed some of the greatest minds to have ever existed and now shares the mind of Jacob. Thoth acts as a mentor, guiding and teaching Jacob. As one of the older gods and the son of Gyia, Thoth's influence in the world is immense. His followers revere him as a wise and knowledgeable deity, one who embodies the pursuit of knowledge and the constant expansion of one's mind.
Veela
Veela are beautiful, alluring water nymphs. Their mesmerizing appearance and enchanting voices can captivate even the strongest of minds. However, their seductive charm can quickly turn dangerous, as their tempers are notoriously unpredictable. It is said that the only way to resist the Veela's allure is with strong willpower and pure intentions. They are distantly related to the gods of the old religion, although the relationship isn’t clear.
The Kubra
The Kubra are fierce and savage creatures, known for their thick, snow-white fur and towering height. Highly territorial, they will stop at nothing to defend their territory, making them a dangerous adversary for any traveller who crosses their path. Though rare, their pelts are highly coveted for their warmth and beauty, attracting hunters who seek to make a fortune from their capture. However, these hunters often find themselves in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse, as the Kubra are not easily caught and will not hesitate to turn the tables on those who seek to harm them.
